12 Hours In My Mind

Well, today I decided to write down my random thoughts from 8 A.M. until 8 P.M.

They aren't very interesting or relevant to anything, but here goes.

So turn on, tune in, drop out and enter the crazy world of my mind.

First, watch this intro, pretty much sums up the trip you are about to take.

  • Don't try to cover up cigarette smoke with perfume. It doesn't work.
  • Hugs are better un-rushed…
  • When you say "who/what" I don't think you pronounce the slash
  • Okay, so the 10 commandments were carved into stone. But the whole Torah? That would take forever
  • Hmm, Jews don't say God's name to show him respect. Interesting.
  • 'Cause it's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll
  • Put some clothes on
  • Wow, she makes a convincing guy
  • WTF? *
  • Showtime!
  • DJ Rabbi D at your service!
  • "75 seconds? I can do a whole minute!"
  • If I ripped off your legs, why would it matter if I put them in hot lava** or not?
  • 12 is a nice, even number
  • That was a polite way of saying "I don't want to come!" Obviously you didn't get that.
  • Much better un-rushed
  • I don't think you can say "cup of latte"
  • Wow, 2nd page. I have no life.
  • What would the world look like if nobody had eyebrows? Woah, freaky. What is the purpose of eyebrows? They don't actually serve a purpose do they?
  • Seeing as this is none of your business please stop reading over my shoulder. Thanks.
  • Eets b-e-a-u-tiful outside!
  • I guess some people are just deaf.
  • Shit, we have to hand that in?
  • I've got a loverly bunch of coconuts-DO YOUR WORK!
  • Hard row to hoe all by yourself
  • Didn't know anyone could possibly complain that much
  • Lean back and you have a cushion
  • How hard would you have to push to get a pen through your eye into your brain? ***
  • A year is longer than a semester. Dumbass.
  • If you are going to insult someone, at least do it properly
  • Do bongs get hot when used?
  • Fifth period was designed to kill my mood
  • How long would you go to jail for stabbing someone in the leg with a compass?
  • Beatles had Apple first…
  • EARTHQUAKE!
  • When she moves my brain screams out this song. HELLO!
  • Candy machine jelly beans taste nasty
  • Why? Why why why why why why why?
  • Should I write this from a Nazi point of view? That would generate an interesting response…
  • Well that was fun.
  • When in a shitty mood, hugs help and ice cream helps, but together they can fix almost any mood.
  • I wonder if you can shot-put a weight…
  • I just tried to snooze my phone
  • It's 4:12 and I can't keep my eyes open
  • Blah
  • I hate it when people speak acronyms. ****
  • It is hard to match the epicality of an 8-year-old screaming "THIS IS SPARTA!" during a dodgeball game
  • What if our eyes weren't in our head? Our perception of the world would be totally different
  • I can feel time passing. Freaky.
  • Look out of my window; Still rainin'
  • Less talking. More music.
  • I look at the world and I notice it's turning, while my guitar gently weeps

Thanks for joining me during that 12 hour trip through my thoughts. That was pretty pointless but oh well…

*pronounced "dubbuyewtieyff" as in this video

** speaking of which, is there any other kind of lava?

*** This wasn't a depressed sentiment, though I have those moments, it was more of a morbid curiosity

**** e.g. "Oh emm gee" in real life. Makes me want to strangle them.

Sons of Anarchy

Ridin' through this world
All alone.
God takes your soul,
You're on your own.

The crow flies straight;
A perfect line.
On the Devil's bed
'Till you die

This life is short,
Baby that's just fine.
Better live it right
'Cause you aint comin' back.
Gotta raise some hell,
'Fore they take you down.
Gotta live this life!

Gotta look this world
In the eye.
Gotta live this life
'Till you die.
You better have soul
Nothing less.
'Cause when it's business time
It's life or death.

The king is dead,
The light goes on.
Don't lose your head
When the deal goes down.

Better keep your eyes on the road ahead.
Gotta live this life.
Gotta look this world in the eye.
Gotta live this life
Until you die.

Those are the lyrics to This Life by Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers.

So those weren't just random lyrics (I may do that from time to time though), that is the theme song to my favourite T.V. show, Sons of Anarchy.

It follows the trials and tribulations of the fictional Sons of Anarchy, a 1% motorcycle club (Bike gang) operating in southern California.

Now, yes this show has awesome music:

- I was listening to this song on repeat all day yesterday.

- This song is pretty awesome too

But SOA also has a really good plotline, not to mention well written.

It has all the classic bike gang activities; gun running, gang fights, hits, etc.

But it also has some internal drama, a Hamlet-esque subplot involving a dead father and an usuper.

The show airs on the FX network, I don't get it and I don't even know if you can get it in Canada. Even if I could find it on T.V. it isn't the kind of show my parents would appreciate watching. So, I am stuck downloading the episodes as they come out. My sincere apologies go to Kurt Sutter, the writer of the show who has ranted on his blog about people illegally downloading his shows, but I have no choice.

That all being said, this show isn't for everyone.

The show is labeled MA for a good reason.

First of all, the language. There are 2 swear words they don't say; cunt and fuck. But other than that, they say everything. All the time. I think in one episode I counted 15 "pussy" and 12 "nigger" references.

Second of all; the sex. Technically, there is no actual nudity, because seeing a naked woman with a man's hands covering her nipples is technically not nudity, but there are plenty of sex scenes, all kinds as well, from bathroom sex to hooker sex. Also one of the main settings in the second season is a porn studio, and everything associated with it.

Lastly, violence. Now, I consider myself fairly assimilated to violence. I watched Pulp Fiction without flinching, etc. But this has made me cringe quite a few times. I don't want to give anything away, but if you can watch a bullet being extracted, initials being carved into dead bodies and someone's back being covered in whiskey and lit on fire, you're all set.

If you still are interested in watching this, either download them all yourself, watch them online, or ask me and I can give you the first two seasons. The third season is slotted to come out right around my birthday (September) and I can't wait.

Thanks for reading,

A 12-Hour Road Trip

So my brother overcame some obstacles this past term and pulled off an awesome report card and my parents wanted to take him out for lunch to celebrate. When she asked him randomly the other day what his favourite restaurant was he replied "The Cracker Barrel". As you may know, there are no Cracker Barrels in Canada, so as a surprise for him we spent the day driving the 2 and a half hours to one just outside of Buffalo. While we were there we stopped and shopped a bit, here are some pictures from the day.

Please excuse the quality, I only had my phone on me.

First, maybe the best restaurant I know, here is my Cracker Barrel Lunch:

  1. Sourdough - Probably the best sourdough I have ever had that wasn't handmade
  2. Cornbread - Real down-south cornbread, it has some ingredient that gives it a special taste
  3. Biscuit - Imagine the Popeye's biscuit, but without the dry floury texture and the saltiness, this practically melts in your mouth.
  4. Raspberry Lemonade - I have never seen this outside of the southern U.S. (With the exception of Cracker Barrel) and it is a really odd yet comforting combination
  5. Chicken 'N Dumplings - Probably the closest you can get to comfort food outside of your mother's kitchen. The dumplings slip down warm and the comforting warmth just spreads throughout your body as you swallow. My favourite meal to have at the Cracker Barrel, perhaps at any restaurant.
  6. Macaroni 'N Cheese - This is without question my favourite of the massive list of sides available. This isn't some KD mac and cheese from a box, this is down home mac 'n cheese straight from the pot.
  7. Steak Fries - While their fries are excellent and seemingly fresh cut, this second side can be replaced with any of many excellent choices. Usually one of the vegetable choices. I am not usually one who enjoys vegetables but with their smoked carrots or brown sugar green beans, not even a strict meatararian such as myself can resist. Unfortunately today I wasn't in the veggie mood, so I stuck with the ever popular steak fries.
  8. Peg Game -  While definitely not a food item, no Cracker Barrel Meal is complete without this classic game. The object is to get rid of all but one peg, you get rid of pegs by hopping them, like in checkers. Every table has a set and they are for sale in the store.

Like I mentioned, there is an attached store with all sorts of odd, unique things.
Here are a few of them:

Here is a set of Gumby and Pokey action figures. They are from an old claymation show, it's pretty awesome. We have a set of these at my house and me and my friend enjoy setting them up in weird action poses around my living room, I'll post pictures at some point if I remember.

Hershey Bars in the original packaging!

Some of the old toys they have including the original Slinky, 8-ball and Jacks.

A set of magnetic salt and pepper shakers in the form of Sally kissing Linus. Just an example of the random nick nacks you find here.

They had a whole stand of individual jelly belly flavours.

Outside of every store they have these rockers and checkers sets set up, the rockers are for anyone to sit on, it is a pleasant atmosphere, some music, good food in your belly, sitting in a rocking chair playing checkers while eating some candy you just bought. Of course the chairs are also for sale, we have been debating getting one for years.

And some other stuff from the day:

An awesome game I found at Barnes and Noble called "Dirty Minds".
The point of the game is to guess the item from the clues, except the clues sound very suggestive but describe a non-sexual item. See the pics for examples.
I love this game because me and my friends have extremely dirty minds and this is the kind of game that would amuse us for hours. I debated buying it, but it would be too hard to justify to my parents.

GRAMMAR NAZI TIME!
So bad grammar on ads is somewhat of a pet peeve of mine.
I found this ad about 15 minutes past the border after we had crossed back into Canada.
For those that can't read it it says: "I  want something fresh, healthy and taste great."
How the hell does something like that get approved? How did so many people miss it.
Ugh. Stupid people annoy me.

Anyway, thats it for this post.
Thanks for bearing through that journey through my day.
Next time you are in the states make sure to stop at a Cracker Barrel, they are everywhere.

'Till next time,

Template Change!

Ok, so as you must have noticed, I have changed my template!

I tried to change it before, but I couldn't find the perfect one online, and while I have significant coding experience, I am not good with aesthetic design so I just stuck to the redesigned templates.

That was before, now Blogger released a template editor so I can truly customize my template and layout. I will probably keep on tweaking things until I get them perfect, so don't be alarmed if the look changes  frequently, I'll probably settle on a good one sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, feel free to comment and give me some feedback.

Thanks Blogger Team!

I Love XKCD

Ok, so my favourite* place on the web at the moment is a web comic called XKCD. There is some language but as long as you don't mind that or lots of random math, you will love it.

There are about 700 comics to date, if you are bored one day, start at one, and just read through them all. A hint is to read the alt-text (little messages that appear over images when you hold the mouse over them), they are hilarious. So, without further ado, here is a whole shitload of my favourites.

Knocked Up, π and No Country For Old Men

I started this a while ago but forgot to post it, so here it is now, better late than never I guess.

Last night my movie loving friend slept over so here is my first blog post comprised entirely of movie reviews. Here it goes:

Almost every person that I talked to who had seen this movie told me how insanely funny it was. With all of that I was expecting one of the funniest movies I had ever seen. Instead I got a funny movie. Not that I was bored or anything, it made me laugh and all, I just don’t think it quite lived up to its reputation. So while I enjoyed the movie and may watch it again, I was overall unimpressed.

I had seen this movie once before, it was on T.V. at around 2 A.M. I liked it at the time. It isn’t your average movie, or even your average psychological thriller. It is filmed on high contrast black and white film, so it is hard to make out any detail really. The score is very well done; it is by Clint Mansell as his first film score. When I watched it last night the film failed to live up to my memory, but that is probably because the lights were on, we were talking and texting friends while watching it. It is the kind of movie you have to watch alone in the dark without distractions. What I really liked about this movie is that it set the stage for both Clint Mansell and Darren Aronofsky, the director, for their next movie “Requiem for a Dream” which is one of the best movies I have ever seen, with possibly the best soundtrack.

I just have to say I thought the movie was terrible. There was little dialogue, a vague plot line and NO MUSIC! It killed me to sit through it, in the last ten minutes I was praying for it to be over so that I could stand up. Today I looked it up and confirmed my suspicion that it won the Best Picture Oscar in 2007 as well as receiving almost universal near-perfect reviews. Maybe I have to watch it again without distractions, but I have to say, it bored me out of my mind.

So overall it was a pretty depressing night filmwise but we had fun anyway.

Moving from Country to Blues? Sure, I'll go with it (:

Clouds, one by one, fill the sky
Just like these tears that fill my eyes
I know by now she ain't comin' back
I watch my world slowly fade into black

Look out my window it's still rainin'
Look out my window it's still rainin'

They say that time heals everything
I've felt the pain that love can bring
It don't get no better with each passing day
Any hope I had is slowly slipping away

Look out my window, it's still rainin'
Look out my window, it's still rainin'

I thought the morning would rescue me
But the rain keeps falling endlessly, endlessly
Sometimes I wonder what'll become of me
There ain't much left of what I used to be
Her love shone on me like the morning light
Now here I am alone again tonight

Look out my window, it's still rainin'
Look out my window, it's still rainin'

This song has been stuck in my head for a few days, ever since I was dusting off the rarely listened to artists on my ipod and I stumbled across Jonny Lang and his album Wander This World.

When you first listen to this guy, you picture an old black guy singing the blues. I was really surprised when I looked him up on Wikipedia and found out that he is a 29 year old white guy.

Here is a picture.

Now I am not a blues expert, but I like him. The only other real blues I have on my iPod is Robert Johnson, a blues pioneer from the ‘30s. Coincidentally, there is a movie about him (Robert Johnson, not Jonny Lang) called Crossroads. Now make sure this is the Crossroads about the blues musician, starring Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid) not the crappy Britney Spears movie about a road trip.

That’s all for now, should be doing science work, going to watch The Lion King instead.

Thanks for reading,

Blogmania

EVERYONE HAS A BLOG!!!!

Ok, maybe that is a teensy bit of an exaggeration. Two of my friends decided to join the blog boom and get themselves set up with blogs. In reading them I found out that two of my other friends had blogs before but stopped after only a few posts.

So this new movement on my blogosphere brings some mixed feelings. On one hand, good for them, they got themselves blogs and my blog got a few new readers. I use the term “readers” very loosely because I doubt anybody has actually read all of my posts, but I just mean that a few more people are actually aware of my blogs existence.

In that last point lies my other outlook. The shelter of my relative anonymity (One person who I actually know knew about this blog) has been blown away. Maybe I am being a bit paranoid but it seems to me that I will have to judge anything I want to write about on here and see if I want everyone to read it and think about how they may take it. For example, if I wanted to talk about these new blogs, I wouldn’t want to criticize anything because it might hurt their feelings or what have you. Another thing is that my online life and my real life are no longer so separated. Before, blogs never came up in normal conversation; they were relatively personal and such. Now when I am hanging out with my friends all I hear is “Oh, I am so gonna put this on the blog.”

All in all, it seems having more people I know find out about this blog counteracts its purpose. I started this blog as a place to say whatever I want about whatever I want. Now, I need to think about what I post and whether I want everybody to know about it, it’s as if I need to censor what thoughts I put here. (That reminds me; I wanted to write a post about censorship and how much it sucks). Maybe I need to start a new blog with a whole new identity and tell nobody about it. That has a few setbacks, one, I guess the whole point of a blog is for people to read what you write; otherwise it’s just a journal. The second is I am having trouble finding time to keep up with one blog; I wouldn’t be able to write two simultaneously. I guess my only choice is to keep up with this one and just keep in mind who can read what.

On a totally unrelated topic, my Led Zeppelin kick has ended, and today I decided to dust off the country section of my collection and listen to that again, I haven’t listened to country since our local station went off air. So right now I have Brooks and Dunn blasting through my headphones. They are a fairly versatile band, from the very foot stomping country song “Play Something Country” to the slow almost tear-jerking song “Believe”*. I don’t know how long my country run** will last, but I am just going to sit back and enjoy it for the moment.

As for movies, last night I watched “i am sam” with my family. I wasn’t expecting much out of it, most movies I watch with my family end up being ok movies, nothing thought provoking or anything, but this was actually an amazing movie. It stars Sean Penn as a severely mentally challenged father fighting to get custody of his daughter. It takes a certain caliber of actor to play someone with a mental disability. Dustin Hoffman did it in Rain Man, and Sean Penn certainly did it here. The movie was well done all around and I encourage everyone to see it. Of course it helped that Sean Penn’s character had a Beatles obsession***.

I think that’s it for now, my bike is out in the garage with two flat tires and the pump is calling my name.

Until next time,
-MAESTRO

*This song always reminds me of my grandpa, I remember hearing it on the radio right after I found out he had died, so it hold a special meaning for me

** Not that this doesn’t mean I have abandoned all other genres or artists; it just means that I am in the mood for a certain genre at the moment.

*** In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I have a bit of a thing for the Beatles

"Today started out ok, then I got up"

(Title is a quote from Freaky Friday, don't know if I got it right but close enough)

Ugh. I am surprised this hasn’t happened earlier but here it is, a pissed off angsty blog post. O, won’t this be fun?

Angsty isn’t a word? FUCK YOU SPELLCHECK! That’s the kind of mood I’m in at the moment. Fun, aren’t I? So yea, people pissed me off this morning, put me in a bad mood, which of course meant that anything anyone said made me want to freak out on them. So in this mood I got pissed off at my friend, she kind of deserved it but I still felt guilty, but not guilty enough to apologize which made the whole thing worse because I was guilty and pissed off at the same time, then my mom comes and asks me if I am ok, to which I made some deflection about being tired. If I were to say no, I am pissed off, I wouldn’t hear the end of it, so it is always just easier to deflect though now she probably thinks I have some screwed up sleeping disorder because I am always tired. That’s probably true because I am killing my body staying up ‘till 1am every freaking night, but I don’t have the self control or even the desire to actually sleep. What the hell am I even talking about? This is why people like me should not have blogs. I am going to go punch something and hope nobody tries to talk to me, I may freak out on them.

My day just keeps on getting better and better. Last time I was really frustrated I went down to the punching bag and couldn’t find the gloves, so I went at it with my bear hands. Not a good idea. I took some skin off of my right knuckle, and now, 2 weeks later it is still all nasty and keeps on opening up again. So when I went down to take out my angstyness on (FUCK YOU! ANGSTYNESS IS SO A WORD!) the punching bag, but had enough sense  not to use my right hand, so I threw a right elbow instead. Well doesn’t my fist smash into the metal pole beside me, opening up my knuckle and making it bleed. O fun, there is blood on my laptop now.

Well this has been a fun start to the march break. It’s barely noon. Great

Well I am going to sign off and see if I can somehow pull myself out of this hole I am in. I should probably start with apologizing.
Until whenever I decide to write another random post,

♫ Been Dazed and Confused for so long it's not true. Wanted a woman, never bargained for you. Lots of people talk and few of them know, soul of a woman was created below. ♫

(Lyrics from Dazed and Confuzed - Led Zeppelin)

Omg, a post less than a week after another? Wow, some kind of a record there.

So probably the only reason I am writing this is because I don’t have the usual Sunday rush to finish all of my homework due the next day. So far the break has done little more than solidify the knowledge that I don’t really have a life. Friday night I spent time at my friend’s house decorating our 3D glasses with nailpolish, I may post some pics if I get off my ass and take them. We must be either really pathetic or really awesome to spend a Friday night sitting on the floor decorating plastic glasses. I am going to go with the awesome option. For the past 10 weeks I have been dragging my butt out of bed at 7 A.M. to go to our local ski school to help teach kids to ski in hopes that I could become a full teacher. Despite the fact that I was amazingly tired, I still forced myself out of bed and to the hill, only to find out that it was closed for lack of snow. Anyway later that day I went to my little cousin’s paintball birthday party. Paintball is a truly awesome sport and I encourage everyone to try it. I am going to ignore the fact that I was up against a bunch of 12 year olds and just focus on the fact that I kicked butt.

For those of you who don’t know, today is pi day (3.14). For those who didn’t eat pie today, shame on you, for those that did, congratulations, join the club. The past couple of days I have been on a bit of a Led Zeppelin kick, and today I finally sucked it up and bought their compilation album “Mothership”. It was a 2/$20 kind of thing so I got the “Best of The Doors” album. They are one of those bands who I know most of their songs but I only have a few, so I figured it was about time that I got some.

Our local Blockbuster is closing down and they are liquidating all of their movies, which translates to us as really cheap good movies. So, naturally our family went binge shopping, picking up around 30 different ones. I plan on watching as many as possible over the break. At the moment I am ¾ of the way through the first Terminator and plan on watching the other ASAP. Also on my list for this week is the Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas, Frost vs. Nixon and π. Crap. I just realized that π would have been the perfect movie to watch today. O well, too late now, I am not going to pull another all-nighter just so I can watch a movie, no matter how good.

Well, I think that’s it for now.

‘Till next time,

♫ And as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls there walks a lady we all know ♫

The lyrics in the title are from Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin. It could quite possibly be the greatest song of all time. Even if you disagree, it is undeniable that it is a good song. My favourite verse is the last, I couldn't fit it all in the title so here it is:

And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our souls,
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines bright light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all.
To be a rock and not to roll.

Hello all.
Wow, I say all like there are more than about 1 or 2 people reading this, either way; hello.
So I have been a bit super-crazy-insanely busy the past few weeks so I haven’t gotten a chance to type up any of my awesome adventures and/or thoughts, so I am going to dump them all into one post and just hope I don’t make a habit out of it.
Hmmm, my last post was Friday the 26th, so I guess I shall start my narrative from there.

Saturday my friend came over with ice cream and movies (and a cow scoop!) because I have awesome friends like that. Anyway, we watched Catch Me If You Can, which would have been a good movie had we paid attention. After that we discovered my fucking slippers (concept of the joke explained here. If you don’t get it, well then you must suck) and bought a squash infected with some sort of STD. Herpes is the popular candidate. Then we watched Up which was a pleasant surprise for me, even though I didn’t pay too close attention to the last parts. All in all it was a fairly awesome day.

The next day I went over to my friend’s house to watch the final Olympic hockey game (Canada vs. U.S.A.). In case you don’t know, I am Canadian and here in Canada we value hockey above all other sports, especially when we can prove we are better at it than other countries, the best is when we can rub a gold medal into the face of our neighbors. Anyway, here we are waiting for the game to start and we are sent on an errand to the grocery store. Do we act like normal people and buy what is on the list? Of course not! We find a bottle of grenadine (sugary syrup in Shirley Temples) and decide to get it. Once we reached her house, we decided simply using the grenadine as it was intended wasn’t sufficient, so we devised an elaborate drinking game for the grenadine shots (if you have never drunk straight grenadine from a shot glass, you have never lived). After a nail biting overtime period we finally won (Thanks to our new national hero – Sidney Crosby) and my friend, her sister, her sister’s friend and I all ran around her street with flags screaming for a few minutes before we realized that we were the only ones in the whole neighborhood who were celebrating. We were disappointed in our town’s spirit; that is until I got a ride home and we passed through downtown. There were people running in the street from the massive crowd of cheering fans. Luckily we had a megaphone so we joined in on the celebrations.

The  next week was fairly shitty, marred with gossip and awkwardness, but I shan’t go into detail, it is not pertinent to this blog anyway.

I hope that I will eventually get around to writing actual blog posts about real topics instead of just recapping my life online, but it’s all that I have right now so I am going to continue.

Actually, I am not, I am suddenly tired so I think I shall read for a bit and then sleep some. I hope to finish this post tomorrow at some point. Au revoir for now.

Hey, I am sitting in world religion class now. The girls behind me are talking about how their mothers have turned 39 for the past 8 years. It amused me.

So, where was I? Ok, I got it.

So Saturday night I went to see Alice in Wonderland with a few of my friends. I was expecting a retelling of the original Lewis Caroll book, but they spun it as a sequel, where Alice returns to Wonderland at 19 and doesn’t remember ever being there before. I don’t want to give away any of the plot, but it incorporates Lewis Caroll’s (he was a pedophile and proposed to an 11 year old by the way) other poem “Jabberwocky” which I had read before and I really enjoyed. The thing with Alice in Wonderland is that you have to be a certain type of person to appreciate it. The humour is off the wall and the movie gets pretty trippy a few times. For example, I and my fellow insane friends loved it, but my semi-normal friend fell asleep. I guess it’s one of those love/hate movies.

Sunday the academy awards finally came. I had never watched them before, but since I have really become interested in movies the past few years I felt I owed it to myself to watch them. I convinced my parents to let two of my friends sleep over even though it was a school night. So after a bit of messing around we finally sat down with our truckload of snacks and watched. I had seen 7/10 of the best picture nominees, my friend had seen 9.5. To tell you the truth, these Oscars were fairly predictable, there weren’t that many upsets. That being said, I was disappointed in the “Actress in a Leading Role” winner, I thought it should have been Gabourey Sidibe from “Precious”. It is not that Sandra Bullock is not a good actress, but her performance in The Blind Side wasn’t earth-shattering. The other “Oscar upset” was the Best Picture. I have to admit I thought Avatar was going to win. I thought that The Hurt Locker deserved to win, but it didn’t get enough publicity and the world seems to be going Avatar crazy. Now I have seen both of the movies and I loved them. Avatar was amazing, I forgot I was watching a movie and I was totally immersed, as with Hurt Locker. I think the win was a surprise to many people, but I think anyone that has seen the movie would agree that it definitely deserved it. After we finished the awards show, we decided that we might as well stay up for a bit, what’s a sleepover without ridiculous amounts of sleep deprivation? We played poker until about 2:30 when my friend convinced me to start (500) Days of Summer, which turned out to be a really good movie, I really liked the non-linear storyline, I think it added to the story a lot.

So after the movie finished we realized there was less than 2 hours until we had to get up, so we thought we might as well just pull an all-nighter. In retrospect that probably wasn’t the best plan. The next morning was a mix of adrenaline fueled hyperactivity and struggles to keep eyelids from closing. I may not have made it through the day without the 8-hour energy drink we bought. I liked it because it wasn’t like other energy drinks like Red Bull or Amp that give you a high for an hour or two then let you crash hard, this was just a subtle buzz throughout the day, with no real high or low point.

So now we are just waiting for the week to wind down. Oh, yesterday I went to a school hockey game, the region finals. I never really thought of our school as having lots of school spirit, but I was proven wrong yesterday. 8 students had GO VIKES! Written on their chests, while 4 more painted their entire bodies orange with their nipples, eyes and armpits blue (Our school colours are orange and blue). We ended up losing the game 6-2, but it was a fun experience nonetheless, especially considering we missed 3 out of 4 classes for it.

So now everyone is scrambling to make plans for March Break (That’s spring break for all of you non-canadians) which is next week. It should be fun.

Anyway, I think 1300 words is more than enough for this post. Wow, that is enough for the World Religions ISU that I am supposed to be doing. Weird. Hopefully next time I will have an actual topic instead of just recounting my uneventful life.

Until next time,
