And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our souls,
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines bright light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all.
To be a rock and not to roll.
Hello all.
Wow, I say all like there are more than about 1 or 2 people reading this, either way; hello.
So I have been a bit super-crazy-insanely busy the past few weeks so I haven’t gotten a chance to type up any of my awesome adventures and/or thoughts, so I am going to dump them all into one post and just hope I don’t make a habit out of it.
Hmmm, my last post was Friday the 26th, so I guess I shall start my narrative from there.
Saturday my friend came over with ice cream and movies (and a cow scoop!) because I have awesome friends like that. Anyway, we watched Catch Me If You Can, which would have been a good movie had we paid attention. After that we discovered my fucking slippers (concept of the joke explained here. If you don’t get it, well then you must suck) and bought a squash infected with some sort of STD. Herpes is the popular candidate. Then we watched Up which was a pleasant surprise for me, even though I didn’t pay too close attention to the last parts. All in all it was a fairly awesome day.
The next day I went over to my friend’s house to watch the final Olympic hockey game (Canada vs. U.S.A.). In case you don’t know, I am Canadian and here in Canada we value hockey above all other sports, especially when we can prove we are better at it than other countries, the best is when we can rub a gold medal into the face of our neighbors. Anyway, here we are waiting for the game to start and we are sent on an errand to the grocery store. Do we act like normal people and buy what is on the list? Of course not! We find a bottle of grenadine (sugary syrup in Shirley Temples) and decide to get it. Once we reached her house, we decided simply using the grenadine as it was intended wasn’t sufficient, so we devised an elaborate drinking game for the grenadine shots (if you have never drunk straight grenadine from a shot glass, you have never lived). After a nail biting overtime period we finally won (Thanks to our new national hero – Sidney Crosby) and my friend, her sister, her sister’s friend and I all ran around her street with flags screaming for a few minutes before we realized that we were the only ones in the whole neighborhood who were celebrating. We were disappointed in our town’s spirit; that is until I got a ride home and we passed through downtown. There were people running in the street from the massive crowd of cheering fans. Luckily we had a megaphone so we joined in on the celebrations.
The next week was fairly shitty, marred with gossip and awkwardness, but I shan’t go into detail, it is not pertinent to this blog anyway.
I hope that I will eventually get around to writing actual blog posts about real topics instead of just recapping my life online, but it’s all that I have right now so I am going to continue.
Actually, I am not, I am suddenly tired so I think I shall read for a bit and then sleep some. I hope to finish this post tomorrow at some point. Au revoir for now.
Hey, I am sitting in world religion class now. The girls behind me are talking about how their mothers have turned 39 for the past 8 years. It amused me.
So, where was I? Ok, I got it.
So Saturday night I went to see Alice in Wonderland with a few of my friends. I was expecting a retelling of the original Lewis Caroll book, but they spun it as a sequel, where Alice returns to Wonderland at 19 and doesn’t remember ever being there before. I don’t want to give away any of the plot, but it incorporates Lewis Caroll’s (he was a pedophile and proposed to an 11 year old by the way) other poem “Jabberwocky” which I had read before and I really enjoyed. The thing with Alice in Wonderland is that you have to be a certain type of person to appreciate it. The humour is off the wall and the movie gets pretty trippy a few times. For example, I and my fellow insane friends loved it, but my semi-normal friend fell asleep. I guess it’s one of those love/hate movies.
Sunday the academy awards finally came. I had never watched them before, but since I have really become interested in movies the past few years I felt I owed it to myself to watch them. I convinced my parents to let two of my friends sleep over even though it was a school night. So after a bit of messing around we finally sat down with our truckload of snacks and watched. I had seen 7/10 of the best picture nominees, my friend had seen 9.5. To tell you the truth, these Oscars were fairly predictable, there weren’t that many upsets. That being said, I was disappointed in the “Actress in a Leading Role” winner, I thought it should have been Gabourey Sidibe from “Precious”. It is not that Sandra Bullock is not a good actress, but her performance in The Blind Side wasn’t earth-shattering. The other “Oscar upset” was the Best Picture. I have to admit I thought Avatar was going to win. I thought that The Hurt Locker deserved to win, but it didn’t get enough publicity and the world seems to be going Avatar crazy. Now I have seen both of the movies and I loved them. Avatar was amazing, I forgot I was watching a movie and I was totally immersed, as with Hurt Locker. I think the win was a surprise to many people, but I think anyone that has seen the movie would agree that it definitely deserved it. After we finished the awards show, we decided that we might as well stay up for a bit, what’s a sleepover without ridiculous amounts of sleep deprivation? We played poker until about 2:30 when my friend convinced me to start (500) Days of Summer, which turned out to be a really good movie, I really liked the non-linear storyline, I think it added to the story a lot.
So after the movie finished we realized there was less than 2 hours until we had to get up, so we thought we might as well just pull an all-nighter. In retrospect that probably wasn’t the best plan. The next morning was a mix of adrenaline fueled hyperactivity and struggles to keep eyelids from closing. I may not have made it through the day without the 8-hour energy drink we bought. I liked it because it wasn’t like other energy drinks like Red Bull or Amp that give you a high for an hour or two then let you crash hard, this was just a subtle buzz throughout the day, with no real high or low point.
So now we are just waiting for the week to wind down. Oh, yesterday I went to a school hockey game, the region finals. I never really thought of our school as having lots of school spirit, but I was proven wrong yesterday. 8 students had GO VIKES! Written on their chests, while 4 more painted their entire bodies orange with their nipples, eyes and armpits blue (Our school colours are orange and blue). We ended up losing the game 6-2, but it was a fun experience nonetheless, especially considering we missed 3 out of 4 classes for it.
So now everyone is scrambling to make plans for March Break (That’s spring break for all of you non-canadians) which is next week. It should be fun.
Anyway, I think 1300 words is more than enough for this post. Wow, that is enough for the World Religions ISU that I am supposed to be doing. Weird. Hopefully next time I will have an actual topic instead of just recounting my uneventful life.
Until next time,
-MAESTRO
